What size should I look for? Do you have to take out the freezer section or can you just run your beer lines up through it?

The Sanyo 4.9 CF is the one. It runs $199 at Best Buy.
The 4910, 4911 and 4912 do not have freezers so you are in the clear. I found a site that shows step by step how to do your conversion, pretty easy. I'll send it if you want. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp;js...d=1099397015586 Here is a great link on the same topic. http://www.brewboard.com/index.php?showtop...02&hl=sanyo I am about to start my build now that BBQ season is here. that would work as long as you don't want a draft tower...if you want a draft tower will need a small chest freezer

very well, I stand corrected. Some other models have some important parts up there that you don't want to drill though...guess I made an over generalization

Sadly $200 is more than I was thinking of spending. I saw a 4.6CF frig at target. Not sure about the icebox though. Are chest freezers extremely big? Guessing that would end up costing more than a minifrig even.

Currently, the Sanyo SR-4912 is the only compact fridge in production that can be easily converted into a homebrew kegerator. Other older models that can be converted are the Sanyo SR-4910, SR-4911, and the Sanyo SR-4012. There is also a kenmore 4.9cu/ft fridge that is basically the 4912 rebranded, but I don't recall the model number. Other fridges not only have a freezer which doubles as the cooling element, but they also have a large hump on the bottom which houses the compressor. Unfortunately, these fridges don't turn up for sale used too often. If you have a limited budget, I'd look for used full-sized fridges on craigslist and the classifieds.

I've got a wine fridge that i picked up for $160 at Home Depot. It holds 2 cornies and my CO2 no problem. Looks a whole lot nicer than a mini fridge too.

FYI the answer to 99% of your posts is a little button on the top right of the screen..it's called search.
I'm sorry but I am so sick of your useless banter. |

I agree here Rabeb. I do think there is an ignore user function here if you want to use that.
Cheers |

You can put a tower on top of the Sanyo See here: http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/robertsperry...perry/my_photos Ditto... got the samething! I believe the older models did have a cooling coil or plate in the top of the fridge would was nealry impossible to drill around, I think that all new modles only havew the cooling plate on the back wall. (Could be wrong though (IMG:style_emoticons/brewboard/crazy.gif) ) |

Apologies to Rabeb, et all who find my posts irritating. I have been trying to use the search feature more, however I didn't come up with much on what size/brand minifrig to use as kegerator as a lot of people talk about using box coolers and full size frig's. No doubt my inability to use the search function properly is the problem and maybe Rabeb can send me a PM giving me a private tutorial on searches so that I don't irritate him.
On a side note, I just went to a deli yesterday that serves 2 beers on tap out of 5 gallon kegs from Sierra Nevada and the owner uses a minifrig kegerator. It looks pretty old, and he told me he'd let me come and take a look at it sometime so maybe I can get some ideas on how he did this (since I don't think it's a Sanyo.) |
